Areen Syed '24 won second place in the 9th Annual American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Hampton Roads Section (HRS) Middle School Essay Contest.
She wrote an essay on the topic: How advanced can you envision space technology and exploration will be through the next 50 years? What do we need to do now to achieve that?
“Outer Space has always intrigued me, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to share my ideas," Areen said. “For my essay, I did a lot of research on the topic, and I found a ton of information that made me more interested in space technology and exploration."
Areen's science teacher, Mr. Woody Poole, gave students information about the competition, which had a record number of entries this year.
