This past spring, Norfolk Academy alumni Will Ward ‘23, Fred Ward ‘23, and Logan Mann ‘23 embarked on exciting semesters abroad in Valencia, Spain, participating in the UVA in Valencia: Engineering program.

As rising juniors at the University of Virginia, they took advantage of this unique opportunity to continue their engineering coursework while immersing themselves in a new culture. Their time in Valencia was enriched by the strong Spanish foundation they built during their years at Norfolk Academy, Fred Ward said. Whether ordering meals, exploring the city’s rich architectural landmarks, or chatting with Valencian locals, their language skills gave them the confidence to fully engage with their surroundings.  

Spring break offered another incredible adventure as the group traveled to Scandinavia, visiting Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, as well as meeting up with Liam Sullivan ‘23, who flew over for a trans-Atlantic Bulldog reunion!

Each destination brought new experiences, from taking in breathtaking natural landscapes to discovering different cultural traditions. The combination of academic rigor, cultural immersion, and international travel made their semester abroad an unforgettable chapter in their college experience!
