Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I owned a Personal Training studio for ten years, and oftentimes when discussing with my clients about life habits/behaviors, middle and high school physical education class would come up in the conversation. There was definitely a pattern of people feeling left out or inadequate in these classes that turned them off of physical activity and exercise FOR A LIFETIME. I thought that something needed to be done and I was just the person who could do it. I thought if I make a difference to just one student, it would be worth it. I have been fortunate enough since that time to help write curriculum and develop Physical Education classes to help conquer those feelings of inadequacy, so I am positive I achieved my goal. I am pretty proud of that.

What drew you to Norfolk Academy?
My son Campbell started at Norfolk Academy in his sophomore year, and it was such a gift to our entire family.

What excites you most about Norfolk Academy?
I love the people the most! It seems to me that arms are always open around here, and that is a wonderful environment to be in.

In your own time/when not working:
I would like to say that I have a zest for life so when I am not working I am usually moving in a hundred different directions! My husband and I are empty nesters, but we are definitely not staying home. We attend concerts, sporting events or one of the yummy restaurants that our area has to offer on a regular basis. We are usually in the company of good friends that we consider family. We also enjoy being active and hanging out with our two Golden Retriever’s, Ace and Elliot, who we completely adore.

Last book read:
The Fact of a Body by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich
Favorite “guilty pleasure”?
I love the old shows from the 80s like Matlock or Columbo! Life was way simpler back then! I also love Yacht Rock Radio!
Favorite food to cook?
(My son) Campbell likes this Baked Spaghetti that I make. It’s my favorite to cook because I love the way he looks at it and me when I serve it. Otherwise, I don’t like to cook!

Favorite food to eat?
Chips and Guacamole!
Fun fact your students don’t yet know about you:
I love all genres of music and attend many, many concerts. I have seen everyone from Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne, to Elton John and Neil Diamond, to Florida Georgia Line and Hall and Oats. I will listen to just about anything and always have music playing in my office-it helps me think!
