How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
I have been at Norfolk Academy for eight years.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I believe everyone has the ability to learn about and love music, but too many never get the chance. I want to inspire my students to accomplish more than they think is possible. I hope each student can enjoy their own successes and achievements.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
I love the freedom I have to create and work with my band students. I am especially appreciative of the brand new large ensemble room. Having a dedicated space to rehearse has encouraged creativity and teamwork.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...all of the teachers and staff are striving to create the absolute best learning environments for our students.

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I am a bassoonist with the Virginia Wind Symphony (25 Years) and fill in for other groups, such as Tidewater Winds and Symphonicity, as time permits. I also work with ensembles at other local middle and high schools throughout the school year and summer.

Last book read:
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Favorite food?
Mexican food. I especially love my mom’s enchiladas, tacos, rice, and beans. It is a very special meal for my family and we always hope that it will be prepared.

A movie is being made about your life. Whom would they cast to play you?
Sandra Bullock. She attended East Carolina University too!

Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I have been collecting frogs since I was two years old. I even have a separate Christmas tree full of frog ornaments!
