How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
This is my 10th year! When did that happen?!

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
To be honest, at first I didn’t think I wanted to be an educator because I really wanted to be a dental hygienist. It wasn’t until I was introduced to Norfolk Academy that I changed my mind and knew I wanted to teach and coach. I visited campus and met with a handful of faculty and left knowing I needed to be a part of this community. I wanted to be like the teachers I met, the ones that influenced me growing up, and I wanted to be around the children that were so excited to be at school to learn. The energy was contagious.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
I love coming to work each day and seeing the students and my colleagues. I work with the Lower School students all day but then get to coach the Middle and Upper School students. I have the opportunity to interact with so many different students throughout the day.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...of our emphasis on honor and character. I see it every day from first grade to the seniors on the sports fields. From the handshakes when you enter the classroom, and “hello, Coach” as you walk across campus, to the “thank you” after practice, it truly is amazing watching these students each day.

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I don’t care what it is as long as the the whole family is together. My husband and I have pretty similar teaching and coaching schedules, so time when we can be with our son and dog is what we look forward to the most. We love the beach, hiking, traveling, and just being outside, but we also love ordering take out and watching a good movie at home.
