How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
I have been at Norfolk Academy for 14 years as a teacher, and I was here for ten years as a student.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I grew up in a family of educators. I got to spend so much time with my parents as a child because of our shared connection with school. Their careers inspired me to want to teach. I find my career in education intellectually fulfilling, and it gives me an opportunity to help people every day!

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
I love my students! They are smart, engaged, friendly, and eager to take on new challenges.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...the students seek relationships with their teachers. Our school is a family!

Last book read:
Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I am a runner and I run in several long distance races each year. I love to read, take yoga classes, swim, and play with my kids, who are ages four and ten.
Favorite food?
Chicken Divan, a casserole made with stuffing, chicken, broccoli, and a creamy sauce - it’s a Hudgins family holiday favorite!

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Reese Witherspoon
Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I spent a summer at the Coast Guard Academy because I thought I might want to go there. The cadets laughed when I asked about their art and literature classes, and I realized it was not the place for me!

“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...a Shakespearean actress on the stage in London!
