How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
I have been teaching at Norfolk Academy for 13 years. I was also a student here for all 12 years, so I guess that means this is my 25th year at Norfolk Academy.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I spent my summers at Camp Alleghany in Lewisburg, West Virginia. I always looked up to my counselors and ultimately enjoyed serving as a counselor to younger campers. After college, I spent a year in England working for the English Lacrosse Association as a lacrosse coach and PE teacher at an all-girls boarding school north of London. Returning to teach and coach at Norfolk Academy was a natural next step and perfect fit for me.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
Having spent the vast majority of my life on this campus, I cannot imagine not being here. The people (students, faculty, and staff included) are interesting and enjoyable to be around and no two days are the same. I have never seen this as “work” or a “job” and I wonder how many people can truly say that?

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...it is an educational institution with a strong foundation interwoven into the history of Tidewater that seeks to push students to be their best and connect with both our local and global communities.

Last book read:
I am currently reading Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life by Sally Bedell Smith. I am proud to be an American, but I do think I was born on the wrong continent as my love for all things British runs deep.

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I like to spend time with my family and friends doing anything, really.

Favorite food?
Pasta. Or Bread. Maybe just Italian food in general?

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Kristen Wiig. She is funny!
Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I am not that fun. Or surprising. Is that surprising?

“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...a food photographer and/or the host of a travel food television show.
