How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
This is my 14th year at Norfolk Academy.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I had a chance to guide camping trips for students as a summer job one year in college, and I fell in love with the idea of supporting others’ growth in terms of skills, knowledge, and confidence.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
The community. The people I get to work with are amazing - both the adults and the students. It’s a constant opportunity to learn from someone and to support others as they learn.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...the sense of honor on which the school rests. The open lockers in the school are a visible example of this, but the importance of honor and integrity are fundamental to the school.

Last book read:
The Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I love to cook. As a family, we spend a good bit of time traveling to see relatives that are spread across Virginia and beyond.
Favorite food?
Thanksgiving. Not exactly a food, but I love the Thanksgiving meal and everything about it.

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Moe Howard
Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
For five years I rode a motorcycle to school anytime it wasn’t raining and was above freezing.

“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...an astronaut. Who doesn’t want to be in space exploring new things?
