How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
This is my fifth year of teaching at Norfolk Academy.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I have always loved children. Being a part of a child’s growth and development is something that brings me great joy and satisfaction.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
I have had the opportunity to teach in many different educational settings throughout my career. Norfolk Academy is a place like no other. It is an exceptional place to learn and grow. The facility is beautiful, but more importantly, the people who work here and the families who are a part of this community all strive to make it a place where each child is nurtured and immersed in an environment that upholds the core values of honor, integrity, and the love of learning.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
... of its core values. Each day, the teachers of Norfolk Academy greet their students with a firm handshake, direct eye contact, and a smile. This greeting is embraced by the students and is a natural introduction to the way people are respectfully greeted in real life situations. Many in our society have moved away from teaching lessons on honor and integrity; however, Norfolk Academy considers these values to be critical components in the education of each child. When children feel loved and respected, they tend to open up and are willing to ask the necessary questions that lead to successful problem solving and innovation. Norfolk Academy does a beautiful job of fostering the development of creative, inquisitive, happy, respectful, well-adjusted citizens and leaders of the future.

Last book read:
I usually have several books going at one time, but I most recently finished Living a Life That Matters by Harold S. Kushner.

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I love to travel, explore flea markets and antique stores, read, entertain close friends and family, refinish furniture, paint, swim, shop, cook, walk on the beach or in my neighborhood, hike in the mountains/desert, attend church, bike with my husband, decorate, go to the movies, play with my cat or the neighbor’s dog, hang out with my sons, and snorkel.
Favorite food?
I love Italian food. Aldo’s Penne Rosso Vivo with spinach is my favorite!

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
They would cast ME to play me because they would realize I’m one of a kind!
Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I was on the Dr. Phil show!
