Enrichment at the Academy offers extra-curricular opportunities for students after school and on the weekends. These programs are open to the public.

Athletics

Bulldog Athletic Programs are run by Norfolk Academy varsity coaches, and varsity players and other coaches are on hand to help the students learn basic skills.

Bulldog Baseball

Focus on the fundamentals of baseball, including hitting, pitching, infield, outfield, catching, base running, bunting, cut-offs & relays, rundowns and sliding! Players will need to bring a bat, glove, athletic shoes, and water bottle.

Bulldog Field Hockey

This is the place to learn the sport of Field Hockey!  Varsity Field Hockey coaches and the Varsity Field Hockey team will take your daughter through 4 clinics with learning the skills of field hockey while having fun!  The clinics will always end with game play.  We ask that the girls bring their own mouth guard, shin guards and water bottle.  We have sticks that they can borrow.  There will be an additional water cooler.  Girls in grades 1-6 can participate and they can bring friends from other schools.  We will divide them according to age so they are with their friends!  Hope you can join us for 4 fun filled sessions!

Bulldog Swim Team

Bulldog swim team is a 6-week after school swimming program for those students wishing to become stronger and faster swimmers. This program will teach proper technique in all 4 competitive strokes, starts and turns. This program is open to 2-6 graders that can successfully swim 25 yards in freestyle and backstroke.

Soccer Shots

Soccer Shots is a uniquely designed program that allows for the individual development of each child within a team sport setting. Soccer is introduced in a fun, safe and developmentally appropriate manner. Each week, our Soccer Shots Premier program focuses on individual skill, fitness and sportsmanship, while providing an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team interaction. Through the avenue of soccer, our program emphasizes character forming lessons such as teamwork, respect, integrity and confidence.

Children should be dressed appropriately both for activity (t-shirt, shorts, sweatpants, sneakers) and weather. Cleats and shin guards are not required. In the event of inclement weather and activity occurs inside, cleats are not permitted in the building.

The Art of Karate

Welcome to Genbu Kai Karate of Virginia where we instruct students in the art of traditional Shito Ryu Karate. Our goal is to develop good character and to become the best version of ourselves. Through our teachings, we instill a good work ethic, positive attitude, a resilient mind and spirit, along with a strong physical body.

Fashion Design and Sewing

In this creative sewing class, students will be taught to create and design with a variety of fabrics while using real sewing machines. Students will be encouraged to explore their inner fashion designer! * Two sessions offered this Fall!

Holiday Handmade Gifts

Fun and practical and just in time for the holiday season, this captivating and popular enrichment program will give participants the opportunity to apply their own personal touch to make gifts for the special people in their lives.  We’ll make some functional, some fanciful, and some flashy items.  You’ll need to get your creative juices flowing as you whittle away at your holiday gift list, making gifts for folks of all ages.  At the end of the day you can expect to have up to 8 gifts wrapped and ready for giving.    Just bring along your gift list and get ready to be diligent and productive.  Everything else you need will be provided for you (including lunch).  What a fantastic way to show your love to your family and friends. *Two sessions offered

Literature to Life Drama

Participants in the Literature to Life Drama Club will share in nearly every facet of producing a play as we bring much-loved literature to life! We will work together to develop scenery props, costumes, and of course, the play itself! This dynamic program will help young thespians take to the stage and shine as we will present How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Young People's Theater Program (YPTP)

Join us this Fall as we present this witty and fun play, “Pandora’s Socks and other Fractured Greek Myths!”

Students will fully immerse themselves in the production of a play.  From learning theater lingo to embracing the audition process and most importantly- receiving & respecting the part they are given.  Guided by Mrs. Peterson, and her her team, Itsje Rowson, Betsy Guzik, Janice Simone and Catherine Dodd, participants will work together to build sets and design costumes to present a great show. Mrs. Pollio, our resident Latin and Greek scholar will be on hand to help us decipher between real and fractured.  There is also talk of cameos!   Hope any 4-6 grader can join us!

Public Speaking - Bulldog Style!

Need help improving or refreshing your Girl of the Day, Boy of the Day, or Person of the Day presentations? Are you interested in trying out for Forensics or improving your public speaking skills? You will receive coaching and examples of ways to improve your oratory skills, plus other tips and tricks to help make you a more confident speaker!
