Our approach to distance learning seeks, to the greatest extent possible, to ensure that students maintain connections with each other and with their teachers and engage in learning experiences across all disciplines and grade levels. Although distance learning will never replace the direct contact students have with their teachers and peers as members of a caring, inclusive campus community, it will allow students to continue to progress in their studies and to nurture relationships with friends and trusted adults.

Community Login issues?
Reliable access to our website and portals to our distance learning platforms is more critical than ever. We are currently exploring solutions to ensure information is readily available to our families in the event of an outage at any of our third-party service providers. In the meantime, should you experience a problem accessing our website, your Norfolk Academy email account, or the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), here are three links to directly access some of our more critical resources. For each grade level, the morning meeting and synchronous classes will occur from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Each grade level will have a specific schedule.
Morning Meeting - This is homeroom community time for teachers to engage with their students, to provide guidance for the day’s learning goals and expectations, and to provide a visual/social connection among classmates. It will also allow for an abbreviated Boy/Girl of the Day presentation.
Synchronous Core Classes - These 20-30 minute classes will be structured to introduce new skills as well as provide time for any necessary review.
Asynchronous Activities – In addition to real-time, core instruction, students will have assignments or activities that will need to be completed outside of class. Teachers will provide guidelines and feedback.
Resource Classes – Resource classes will operate on a rotating schedule. Homeroom teachers will inform their students about the specific timetable.
Office Hours -Teachers will have daily office hours to respond to questions or offer help sessions.
Breaks - Students will have 15-20 minute breaks between classes to refresh and refocus.
A Note about Attendance
We know that students are excited to participate in the live sessions, but circumstances may, at times, prevent a student from attending a scheduled Zoom class. Students will not face penalties if they are unable to participate.

D bell: 10:15-10:35 a.m.
E bell: 10:40-11:00 a.m.
F bell: 11:05-11:25 a.m.
G bell: 11:30-11:50 a.m.
Advisory: 11:55 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
Students will be notified in advance about Zoom meetings; if a student has a particular conflict with a time slot, he/she should reach out to the teacher in advance. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers proactively if they have questions or if an assignment is unclear.
