Named chairman of the Norfolk Academy Fine Arts Department in 2015, Mr. Danielson also serves as the Director of the School of the Arts and is the Lower School Strings and Orchestra Teacher. From 1996-2013, he served as the orchestra and chamber music director in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. His goal, through the development of proper basic technical and reading skills, is instilling a lifelong appreciation for enjoying and, ideally, making music. Especially important is the promotion of chamber music for advanced musicians.
Mr. Danielson was a double degree student at Oberlin College and Oberlin Conservatory where he earned a BA in French and a BM in Violin Performance. He earned a MM in Violin Performance from The University of Akron where he attended thanks to a chamber music fellowship. Prior to becoming a full time teacher at Norfolk Academy, Mr. Danielson taught at the Governor’s School for the Arts and performed with the Virginia Symphony, the Virginia Opera, and, as a violist, with the Williamsburg Symphonia. He resides in Norfolk with his wife Amy, a Virginia Symphony violinist, where they are raising two children. For reasons known only to native western New Yorkers, he is an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills.
