North Carolina State University
“Norfolk Academy has helped to shape who I am as a person. I went from being a naïve child to a young adult while living under the same philosophy for all 12 years. I am a better person and thinker because of it.”

What I’ll Miss Most about NA: The teachers and the environment
Most Meaningful Activity
My favorite extracurricular activity was definitely athletics. I went through so many impactful experiences and met so many people who have helped me become who I am today.
Reflections on Learning
My favorite non-classroom experiences have been talking with teachers outside of class because it feels less like a teacher-to-student relationship, and more like a friendship.
Even though I have only had Mr. McMahon as a teacher for my senior year, he has had a profound impact on my view of life. His ethics class and his general approach to everyday life have had a strong impact on my beliefs and behavior.
A Word of Advice to his Fellow Bulldogs
Be open-minded. You will get so much more out of school if you fully invest yourself in it.
A Quick Word About Riley
“Riley is so wonderfully and refreshingly modest and down to earth, and the more you get to know him, the more you realize just how special a young man he is. He is always looking out for others, and always serving as an empathetic and compassionate presence. He is truly the embodiment of the golden rule – do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If everyone treated others the way Riley treats those around him, the world would be a better, kinder, and more giving place. If I could choose any senior to serve as a role model for our Lower School students, Riley would be right up there at the top of my list. He is everything that any school could want in a member of their campus community.” ~ Mr. Brad Harlan, Riley’s College Counselor
The thing that most makes me a Bulldog is… my pursuit of becoming a better person and thinker.
