Exciting Choices

Bard College

“Norfolk Academy has taught me that teachers are allies, not enemies, and that school days can genuinely be enjoyed, rather than dreaded. NA has also taught me to lean in to and embrace my curiosity and creativity.”

What I’ll Miss Most about NA: My Teachers

Most Meaningful Activity
My favorite extracurricular activities have been stage crew and rowing. Both activities require lots of teamwork, and are pretty much rendered ineffective if not everyone is working together.

Beyond the Classroom
My favorite non-classroom experiences have been talking with teachers during H Bell, since they always make me feel so safe in their classrooms. Going to see Mr. Oberdorfer’s new walls, and staring at everything in silence, was always an enjoyable experience on its own.

Reflections on Learning
My favorite classroom experience was probably all of Mr. Savage’s ancient history class. There was never a boring day.

Inspirational Teacher-Coach
I couldn’t pick one teacher, but Tunstall faculty have been so beneficial in making me feel free to express what interests me. Sitting with my teachers during H Bells and talking with them about life or my interests has always been so validating, and will always mean the world to me.

A Quick Word About Kelsey
“From the moment I met Kelsey, I could tell that she was gloriously, wonderfully, and endearingly peerless. She has a strong sense of independence, an exceedingly bright mind, and a deep, thoughtful, and reflective way of viewing the world around her. Kelsey loves learning for the sake of learning, and is driven by her passions above everything else. She relishes the written word, and is one of the best writers I have worked with at the high school level. Kelsey approaches all of her interests with a maturity, curiosity, insightfulness, and drive that far belie her age, and is honestly inspiring to witness. As many of her teachers will attest to, interacting with Kelsey is more like talking to a fellow educator than to a student. I know that she is going to absolutely soar in college and beyond.” ~ Mr. Brad Harlan, Kelsey’s College Counselor

The thing that most makes me a Bulldog is… my sincerity, and bull-headed stubbornness, when it comes to pursuing my passions.
