“Leadership Lab not only taught me a lot about myself, but it brought me closer with many of my fellow classmates. The ninth-grade trip is one of the most valuable experiences I have had at Norfolk Academy and I would strongly recommend others go on it.”

Reflections on Learning
My favorite class memory is when we would play Jeopardy during history classes. I love competition and thought it was awesome when the classes would combine that with our curriculum.
Mr. Feakins would always look out for me, and he taught the proper mentality when it came to facing challenges. I loved how honest he was and how much he cared about others.
The Academy Difference
NA has taught me to be comfortable within my own skin. Being one of the only African American males in my class, I have always felt a little bit different than everybody else. However, I learned that there is nothing wrong with being different, and it helped me further accept myself as a person.
A Quick Word About Justin
“Justin has real talent for creative nonfiction writing and meaningful storytelling in general. He was also a stalwart contributor to class discussions, displaying a willingness to take a chance when responding to a question to which no one else would venture a thought. Justin displayed a genuine interest in the literature – especially texts dealing with issues of race and social justice. I will add that Justin is a pleasure to be around thanks to his affable personality, sharp sense of humor, and thoughtful approach to discussing literature and ideas.” ~ Mr. Ari Zito, Justin’s Biography in its Many Forms and Self/Service in Literature Teacher
