Exciting Choices

Jessie Tignor '21

Christopher Newport University

“I don't think I'll be able find any place where the people are as welcoming as those who reside at NA.”

Peer Counselor, Varsity Field Hockey, Varsity Softball (Co-Captain), Livestrong Club (President)

Favorite Refectory Meal: Baked Ziti

Most Meaningful Activity
One of my favorite extracurricular activities would be field hockey. The relationships and memories can't be beat. It is a team like no other.

Beyond the Classroom
My favorite non-classroom experience would definitely be volunteering at the Eastern Shore Chapel Food Pantry for all three years of middle school. I met lots of generous and compassionate people through that.

Reflections on Learning
My best classroom experience was Gender and Its Discontents with Dr. Kidd. We were able to talk freely in class and explore our ideas. It was a safe and comforting environment.

Inspirational Teacher-Coach
Dr. Kidd had the biggest impact on me. Through the three classes I have taken with him, he has pushed me to become a stronger writer and demanded the best from me.

Making My Mark
I left an impact on Norfolk Academy by bringing the Livestrong Club to the Upper School. Livestrong was there for the members of our Norfolk Academy community and I wanted to spread more awareness. We have the resources to have a positive effect on our community.

A Quick Word About Jessie
“Jessie was a leader and a hero to many when she played football in middle school. In Gender and Its Discontents, Jessie was also a leader in her intellectual work, both in the daring compositions she handed in and in her commentary during our seminar discussions…. I find her good intellectual company in any discussion, and I am certain that her college professors are going to feel similarly when Jessie is there. In Philosophical Literature, Jessie held her own in an advanced course that demands a great deal of its students. Her work has been discerning and thoughtful and creative, and I am glad to have had her in the course.” ~ Dr. David Kidd, Jessie’s English Teacher

The thing that most makes me a Bulldog is…my fight.
