Wake Forest University
“Don't be scared to talk to different people, even if they're in a different friend group than you. Everyone just wants to be friends with each other. Take those risks - they will be worth it. And of course, please read your English books - they're always so much better than you'd expect.”

Three Words to Describe the Class of 2021: Hopeful, Driven, Spirited
What are you most looking forward to in college? Exploring the world and meeting new people
Most Meaningful Activity
The Norfolk Academy swim team has been one of my favorite extracurricular activities. I loved the competitive, individual nature of swimming, and how the sport still manages to create some of the best bonds a team can have.
Reflections on Learning
The Fellows Program is my favorite co-curricular experience. I made friends with people I never would have met before, and it made me feel like I was part of something bigger than myself. Our summer trips have been some of the best experiences in my life, like kayaking up the Delaware, visiting a Cyprus blueberry bog in Pennsylvania, and visiting Tangier Island.
A Favorite Memory
Advisee meetings have been some of my favorite non-classroom experiences - especially advisee lunches. I've been in the same advisee since 10th grade, so I'm close with everyone there. Some of my favorite memories are from advisee lunches when we were so loud that we got funny looks from other tables, or at advisee holiday parties when we made messy gingerbread houses filled with candy and frosting.
Making Her Mark
I hope that I've helped underclassmen feel more comfortable in the Upper School, because I remember how scary it was walking around as a sophomore and seeing all the seniors, who looked so old at the time.
A Quick Word About Jessica
“Jessica is a powerfully smart young woman. She loves animals, the ocean, human anatomy and outer space. She believes that every living thing has a soul, and that all living things deserve respect. She believes that bad actions can stem from good intentions and vice versa, and that balance is critical to leading a good life. She dreams of becoming an astronaut and putting an education focused on bioengineering to work for the good of all animal-kind. It takes moxie, pluck, verve (if you will) to be a high school junior who has a well outlined plan for how to achieve the goal of going to space. Jessica has that plan, and more than a little pluck in reserve to make it happen.” ~ Mrs. Jennifer Scott, Jessica’s College Counselor
