Most Meaningful Activity
Upper School Seminar Day.
I really enjoyed the Literacy Fellows’ story sharing activity because it gave us the opportunity to learn more about what motivates and inspires our classmates. More importantly, the activity, which asked students to write their partner’s story in the first person, encouraged us to walk in another student’s shoes, to empathize with their reality.
During my fifth and sixth grade years, I took part in Norfolk Academy’s Forensics team, and that experience fostered my passion for public speaking. I can still clearly remember Mrs. Diamonstein teaching me how to use different hand expressions and emphasize certain words for my recitation of the piece “Would I Ever Lie to You,” a poem which I continue to keep close in my room. In fact, a video of my winning performance stands on Youtube to this day, and I have yet to figure out who put it up there!
Norfolk Academy has been tremendous at providing me the experiences and support necessary to thrive in college. Structured to promote group discussions and spur creativity, our academic classrooms are fostering communicative and innovative students that are extremely prepared to tackle higher education.
The Academy Difference
Norfolk Academy’s powerful speaking tradition, which encompasses formal events such as Senior Speeches and casual greetings in the hallways, has taught me how to interact with others in various settings. I can still remember the very first day I arrived at Norfolk Academy, my teacher greeted me with a warm smile and friendly handshake; it’s these simple gestures that can go a long way toward building meaningful relationships.
The thing that most makes me a Bulldog is…my passion for creating meaningful relationships, both with friends and teachers.
