Enhance your musical skills over the summer! Come to Norfolk Academy and work with music faculty from Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia and the Virginia Symphony for a one-week summer orchestra camp.


Two Levels of Orchestras:
String Orchestra
Violins, violas, cellos and basses
Symphony Orchestra
A full symphony orchestra with strings, brass, woodwinds and timpani

Daily Schedule includes:
Full orchestra rehearsals;
Coaching and technique classes with professional musicians;
Music theory fundamentals classes;
Other classes which may include yoga, swimming, improvisation, and movement.

Private lessons taught by members of the Virginia Symphony are available before and after camp for an additional fee.

Program Details
June 17 - 21, 2013, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at Norfolk Academy
 
• Students must be 19 years of age or under with at least three years of experience on an orchestral instrument and be serious about increasing their musical skills. Students do not have to be members of Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia to participate.
• Students will be placed in the appropriate ensembles on the first day. You may be asked to sight read and play scales.
• Students must supply their own instruments.
• Sectional coaches and private teachers will be Virginia Symphony members.
• Students should bring a bag lunch or plan to purchase at Norfolk Academy for $6/day or $25/week. There will be access to a snack shop.  You will be sent a medical form upon applying.
• Tuition: $250. Private lessons are available at an additional cost ($50/hour or $25/half hour) and will be scheduled before 9:00 am or after 3:00 pm.
• The camp will culminate in a concert in the Samuel C. Johnson Theater at Norfolk Academy at 4:00 pm on Friday, June 21 followed by a family reception.
