What is Breakthrough?
Breakthrough at Norfolk Academy is a tuition-free, academic enrichment program designed to prepare motivated Norfolk public middle school students for success in college-preparatory high school programs and to provide talented high school and college students with hands-on teaching experience that will inspire them to pursue careers in education. The summer program consists of a full academic school day for six weeks in the summer. Students take English, foreign language, history, math and science classes in addition to electives as diverse as photography, dance and journalism. The school-year program consists of one Super Saturday per month, in which Breakthrough students come to campus for tutoring and community service.
Breakthrough at Norfolk Academy is an affiliate of the national non-profit Breakthrough Collaborative, of which there are currently 33 affiliated sites in the United States and one in Hong Kong.
Breakthrough at Norfolk Academy is the result of a unique partnership between Norfolk Academy and the Norfolk Public Schools, and is made possible thanks to the support of our generous donors. |
