 | The impact of gifts – both large and small – to Norfolk Academy’s endowment has helped shape the school today. For more than 30 years, Norfolk Academy has benefitted from endowment gifts given by alumni, parents, and friends. The school’s endowment provides income every year to carry out donors’ wishes, with the purpose of preserving the real value of the gift. The annual spendable income from the endowment, prudently set at 5 percent of its principal value, is used to support core programs, faculty incentives, financial aid, and new initiatives. Gifts may be specifically designated by a donor to support a particular interest or used in a general way to support the school’s overall program. Norfolk Academy’s endowment has an excellent history of successful management. This means that donors who give to the endowment can be assured that their gifts will continue to grow and benefit the school in perpetuity.
The endowment enables the school to sustain its program’s excellence and plan for the future. It permits us to offer a significant and vital financial aid program. It allows us to be confident that future generations will share fully in the benefits of a Norfolk Academy education.
Gifts to Norfolk Academy’s endowment can include bequests, gift annuities, life insurance, real estate, equities, and cash. For more information on the school’s endowment or if you are considering leaving an endowed gift – an enduring statement of your support or a lasting memorial to a loved one – please contact Herb Soles, Assistant Headmaster for Development (757-461-6236, ext. 5320; hsoles@norfolkacademy.org).
