Before coming to Norfolk Academy, Mrs. Shinofield served as Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Hollins University. She has also held administrative positions in student affairs and campus recreation at Washington and Lee University. She had a distinguished collegiate coaching career in women’s rowing at Princeton, Harvard, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Minnesota. Mrs. Shinofield holds a bachelor’s degree in American history from Princeton University, where she was a national champion rower and captain of the women’s crew team. She garnered All-Ivy League honors while winning Sportswoman of the Year Award her senior year. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Michigan. Mrs. Shinofield and her husband Joel, have three boys, Reed, Soren and Luke, who is a Bulldog first-grader.

Mr. Byler is a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and holds a bachelors degree in Sports Medicine from Messiah College. While at Messiah he pitched four years on the baseball team and served as captain during his senior year. After moving to the Norfolk area, he received a master’s degree in education from Old Dominion University while serving as a graduate assistant and basketball coach at Norfolk Academy from 1992-1994. Mr. Byler first worked as the head athletic trainer at Norfolk Academy before assuming administrative duties in athletics. Mr. Byler has coached basketball and baseball at Norfolk Academy for several years. In addition to coaching at the Academy, Mr. Byler teaches middle school physical education and serves as the Associate Director of Athletics.

Ms. Bailey has taught Physical Education and served as an Athletic Trainer at Norfolk Academy since 2004. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Biology in 2002 from Longwood University. While at Longwood, she worked with student-athletes at Hampden-Sydney College, Prince Edward County High School, and Longwood. Ms. Bailey continued her studies at Old Dominion University, earning a Masters’ Degree in Education and working as an Athletic Trainer for Virginia Wesleyan College. In her free time, Mrs. Bailey enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her family and friends.
