Since 1973 Norfolk Academy has sought to foster relations beyond our own campus, indeed, beyond our national borders. As stated in our Philosophy and Objectives, we strive to “foster intellectual curiosity and individual creativity and personal responsibility so that education goes beyond the classroom and ultimately beyond the experience at this school.” Aware of our role in a world of diverse cultures, a world that grows “smaller” but not necessarily closer every day and a world in which we must cultivate trust in order to dispel mistrust, we strive to offer many opportunities for students to enhance their perspective and enrich their understanding of earth's many peoples, cultures, and languages. We want our students to see and experience life - and to get to know someone - outside of Tidewater, Virginia. The Academy is also a member school of the
School Year Abroad consortium. Qualified students may apply to study abroad for up to a year in France, Spain, Italy, India, and China through SYA. Interested students should see Mr. Nelson for application materials and more information. SYA applications are due in January.
