| | Norfolk Academy Medical Externships What is NAME? A physician-monitored internship program specifically focused on engaging qualified Norfolk Academy students in an educational and participatory program in medicine.
The Mission Establish in 2006, NAME provides upper school students opportunities to participate in a series of medical education programs and internships in the private M.D./hospital industry. The goal of the program is to inspire careers in healthcare and ensure an increasing base of qualified physicians for the Hampton Roads area. The program is a joint effort among community physicians, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Sentara Healthcare, and Norfolk Academy.
History In 2006, private physicians working with the admissions office of the Eastern Virginia Medical School, the Workforce Development division of the Department of Human Services of Sentara Healthcare and the Headmaster and Chair of the Science Department of Norfolk Academy, came together and created a pilot program involving volunteer students from Norfolk Academy.
